Best Places to Take the Family in Key West During Summer Vacation
Summer vacation and with it, peak season in the Southernmost City are right around the corner! When you’re not lounging poolside at The Marker or at the beach, we recommend experiencing all that Key West has to offer. Whether you are looking for tried and true tourist musts, from the Southernmost Point or a Conch Tour Train tour, or a memorable adventure on of Fury’s watersport offerings, there is something to make every family vacation special.
The current The Southernmost Point was built in 1983, after years of the small sign marking the spot being repeatedly stolen. Just 90 miles to Cuba, the massive anchored buoy is one of the top attractions amongst visitors in Key West. A family photo with the iconic landmark could make a standout 2016 Holiday card!
Conch Tour Train
Serving more than 15 million guests, The Conch Train Tour has been a top Key West attraction since 1958. Some of the sights included in the tour are: the Waterfront Theater, Key West Shipwreck Museum, Key West Aquarium, and Audubon House, among others. It’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser that will allow your family to get the lay of Key West and its rich history.
Key West Marine Park
Great for a family snorkeling excursion along Key West’s Atlantic shore right off of Higgs Beach, the Key West Marine Park is a must visit. As a project between the City of Key West and Reef Relief, an environmental organization, it encourages the protection and appreciation of the natural wildlife wonders of the Keys. Families can rest assured that it’s a safe area to snorkel, as there are no motorized boats, jet skis, or other water vehicles allowed near the area. When you’re done snorkeling, lay out on Higgs Beach for some much needed rest and relaxation. Add this to your itinerary for a fun and educational experience for your entire family, and make sure to bring your GoPro for incredible footage of the reefs, coral, and wildlife!
