Q & A with Sean Van den Broeck, General Manager, The Marker Key West Harbor Resort
How long have you been in Key West, and where are you from?
I moved here two years ago, and I’ve been at the Marker for close to two years.
I’m from Durban, South Africa.
What do you do on a day off?
On my days off, it’s all about the kids and family. I have a three-year-old and a nine-month-old, so we try to get out on the water as much as possible.
What are the must-see and do’s in Key West?
A Day at Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park & Beach
Paddle Board and Kayaking with Lazy Dog Adventures.
Best Family Adventure is a day at sea with Fury’s Ultimate Adventure.

For Romance, I highly recommend the Wind and Wine sunset sail with Danger Charters. It’s one of the best!
For a Night Out With Friends, my go-to place is General Horseplay. They do it right every time, and when we have guests in town, that’s where we always go. They offer Craft Cocktails & Beers and entertainment in the backyard.
Tour the island by bike. There are bike tours, or just rent a bike and get lost in paradise. It’s a great way to see the beauty and charm of the island.
One of my favorite Key West attractions is the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory. Make sure to say hi to Rhett & Scarlett, our resident flamingos.
Eat at local restaurants. Some of my favorites include Pepe’s, the lobster roll at Eaton Street Seafood Market, and the best bakery by far is Old Town Bakery.
If you’re looking to break away from reality, there’s no better place to do it than our little oasis here in Key West! ~ Sean
Tips for first-timers to the island?
Get out on the water—watersports with Fury Adventures and Fishing with Fishmonster.
