See Key West by Bicycle
In the coastal city of Key West, the closely-knit streets offer the perfect landscape to be seen by bike. Cruising through the city by bicycle offers some of the best access to beloved Key West landmarks, and with daylong bike rentals available for $25 at The Marker Resort, we encourage our guests to get out in the sunshine and explore the city like a true local. To get the most out of your bike ride, we mapped out a route of local attractions to include in your route.
Begin at The Marker Resort
200 William Street, Key West, FL, 33040
Nestled in a historic 17th century building, the Eaton Street Seafood Market offers some of the freshest seafood in the keys. The staff is incredibly friendly and offers great cooking insights for the fish of your choosing. They even offer daily specialties of fresh ceviche, seafood salads, dips and sauces to be paired with fresh fish. We recommend the lobster roll— you can never go wrong with a classic!
Nancy Forrester has been rescuing and rehoming orphaned parrots right here in Key West for over 30 years. Nancy presents guests with an introductory presentation to her work with the parrots, and guests are able to take pictures of the uncaged birds and even hold them on their arm! Don’t forget to find out the parrots’ exotic names, and say “hi” to Ara, Hammerhead, Skyler, Frieda, and Babble while you’re there!
This 19-acre cemetery is located just a few-minutes bike ride from Duval. Park your bike and stroll through the rich history that is represented by the over 100,000 graves of Key West residents long-passed. This particular location was founded following a mid 17th century hurricane that caused flooding that disrupted the original cemetery’s layout.
(Bike down Truman, up Simonton Street to turn left Petronia Street, then right on Thomas Street.)
Bike down Petronia Street for a glance at the great shops and restaurants of Key West. Sip a glass of fresh sangria at Santiago’s Bodega, or grab a delicious meal at Bliss Restaurant. Whatever you do, try the lobster eggs benedict at Blue Heaven! If you have the afternoon free, peruse the shops along Petronia Street. Some of our favorites include Petronia Island Store, Wanderlust KW, and Blue Marlin.
Truman Annex is an iconic neighborhood, which began as a military installation as part of Fort Zachary Taylor Annex to the Naval Station. The annex is named for past President Harry S. Truman due to his many winters spent in Key West. Take a look at the unique buildings that are home to many in Key West.
Once you are done seeing the sites, stop back to The Marker Resort’s Cero Bodega for some refreshments, or a signature cocktail if it’s past four o’clock! After a day of sightseeing and a light workout, a margarita next to The Marker’s pool sounds like the perfect end to the perfect day in Key West!
